• China is going to build its first national underwater observatory in the disputed South China Sea.


• The 29th International Yoga Festival was inaugurated by Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul today in Rishikesh.


• The Assam government has decided to make Sanskrit compulsory up to Class 8 in all schools across the state.


• The Delhi Government has extended the mid-day meal scheme for girls up to class 12, reportedly making it the first state in the country to do so, the city-state government claimed.


• Pakistan’s Amjad Hussain B Sial has assumed the charge as the Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) today.
He has replaced Arjun Bahadur Thapa, whose term was ended yesterday.


• HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank have started charging a minimum of ₹150 per transaction for cash deposits and withdrawals beyond four free transactions in a month.
The banks will charge ₹5 per thousand rupees or ₹150, whichever is higher, after the free transactions.


• Any bank branch that refuses to exchange soiled or scribbled currency notes from people will have to pay a penalty of ₹10,000, the RBI has clarified today.
However, a bank may levy a service charge if a person exchanges more than 20 notes, or notes worth ₹5,000 per day.


• Jawaharlal Nehru University has won the annual Visitor's Award for the 'Best University', 2017.


• Virat Kohli has been named India's best international cricketer of the year by the BCCI, making him the first player to win the top honour three times.


• Indian grandmaster Harika Dronavalli has won a Bronze medal at the 2017 Women's World Chess Championship in Tehran.


• Telecom Secretary J S Deepak was named India’s next Ambassador to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) from June 2017.


• The World Bank has announced an assistance programme of over $1 billion in the areas of urban transport and climate resilient agriculture in Maharashtra, over the next 2-3 years.


• The Ministry of Women & Child Development is observing the Swachhta Pakhwada from March 1, 2017 to March 15, 2017 and raise awareness about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan among women and children .
Aim: The Swachhta Pakhwada is observed by various Ministries of Government of India to achieve the goal of universal sanitation, hygiene and ‘open defecation free’ India by 2019.


• Ukraine will use the Russian Ruble as its official currency, along with the Ukrainian Hryvnia.


• Kripa Shankar Bishnoi, a former Indian wrestler has been appointed as an international match referee by United World Wrestling (UWW) .


• The All India Football Federation (AIFF) appointed Portugal’s Luis Norton de Matos as the head coach of the India U-17 World Cup team.


• Australian women cricketer Sarah Coyte has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket .
