• Today (1st March) is Zero Discrimination Day.

• To restrict immigration and smuggling, India has built a 2,700-kilometre barbed-wire fence around Bangladesh.


• Today is 41st Civil Accounts Day.


• The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has asked banks to get all the accounts enabled with net banking by March 31 this year.


• Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today announced setting up of the inter-disciplinary standing committee on cyber security to review the threats inherent in existing and emerging technology.

Head of this Committee : Meena Hemchandra (Executive Director, RBI).


• Singer Rihanna has been honoured with the 2017 Harvard Humanitarian of the Year award.


• Gujarati writer Taarak Mehta (87), best known for his columns which were adapted for TV sitcom 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah', died .


• Indian shooter Jitu Rai won the Gold medal in the 50-metre air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Delhi.


• The author Neil Gaiman has been appointed as a global Goodwill Ambassador of the UN Refugee Agency,UNHCR by Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.


• American Express, a global leader in payment solutions has launched an electronic payment platform linked to corporate card, Buyer Initiated Payments (BIP) to eliminate payment through cheques or drafts.


• Canara, HSBC and Oriental Bank of Commerce Life Insurance launched iSelect term plan to expand its online product suit with the meant for family protection.


• To recongnize the contribution of women cricketers, the BCCI for the first time, has introduced the Lifetime Achievement Award for Women. Former captain, Ms. Shanta Rangaswamy has been nominated for the award.


• The Union Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar launched the week long Swachh Shakti Saptah at national level on March 1, 2017 in Gurugram, Haryana to highlight the role of women in Swachh Bharat Mission and to recognize their leadership.


• India has signed a financing agreement of USD 63 million(equivalent) with World Bank in Jharkhand for its Socio-Economic Empowerment of Adolescent Girls and Young Women Project named “Tejaswini”.


• Nand Kumar Sai, a senior tribal leader from Chhattisgarh and ex-parliamentarian took over as the new Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) in New Delhi.


• Joint secretary Gopal Baglay has been appointed as the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs .He is replaced by Vikas Swarup.
