Daily Current Affairs Update --- 8th February 2017






• The 3-day Desert Festival of Jaisalmer began today at Sam Sand Dunes.
Organised by the Rajasthan government to promote tourism, the festival will feature camel races and turban tying competitions.


• Elahiganj in Murshidabad district has become the first village in Bengal to ban sale and consumption of alcohol and narcotics.


• Jovenel Moise was sworn in as Haiti's President and will serve a five-year term.

• The weekly cash withdrawal limit from savings bank accounts from ATMs or banks will be increased to ₹50,000 from February 20 and there won’t be any withdrawal limit from March 13, the Reserve Bank of India announced .
Note : The weekly withdrawal limit now is ₹24,000.


• Bank of America has opened three completely automated branches in the US which do not employ any human.


• Ethiopian runner Genzebe Dibaba broke the women's 2,000-metre world record, running the distance in five minutes, 23.75 seconds, at an indoor arena in Spain.


• 3-day global conference on Nuclear Terrorism to begin in New Delhi .


• The 23rd edition of International Conference and Exhibition on Terrestrial & Satellite Broadcasting was held in New Delhi. The 3-day conference was organized by the Broadcast Engineering Society (India).


•  In United States, Senate has confirmed President Donald Trump's controversial nominee for Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos, by the slenderest possible margin.


• Arunachal Pradesh became the first state in the northeast to implement e-Cabinet solution for the state cabinet members.


• The state government of Arunachal Pradesh launched the Arunachal Civil Service Awards in a bid to encourage good governance in the state.


• Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu will release the annual year book ‘India-2017’ and ‘Bharat-2017’ at a function in New Delhi .
