• The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) today made history by successfully launcheing 104 satellites in one go.
Its PSLV launch system carried a 714-kg Cartosat-2 series earth observing satellite and 103 co-passenger satellites together weighing about 664 kg.
With this, ISRO has broke the world record for the most number of satellites launched from a single rocket.
Russia held the previous record of 37 satellites, launched in 2014.
• The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has opened a first-of-its-kind South Asia Training and Technical Assistance Centre (SARTTAC) in New Delhi for economic capacity building in South Asia.
• American gymnast Simone Biles and Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt have won the Laureus Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year awards respectively.
• Indian women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj has become the second woman player to cross 5,500 runs in ODIs .
• Sandeep Singh has become the second hockey player in the country to receive an honorary doctorate, being awarded one for "sporting excellence" by Desh Bhagat University, a private institution in Punjab.
• India's maiden sport-themed literary festival, SporTale, will be held in Pune on February 21 and 22.
• International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, has teamed up with Finance Industry Development Council (FIDC) to conduct training programmes for Non Banking Finance Companies (NBFCs).
• Nilesh Shivji Vikamsey was elected as the new President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the year 2017-18.The 40-member Central Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) also elected Naveen N D Gupta as the Vice-President for the year 2017-18.
• Kush Bhagat has been awarded the Candidate Master (CM) title by the World Chess Federation body, FIDE for his outstanding performance in Western Asian Youth Chess championship 2016 at UAE.
• India has become one of the nine members of the new ‘Network for Improving Quality of Care for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health’ that aims to improve the quality of care for new mothers and babies.
• The 2017 Cobra Gold Military Exercise kicked off at the Sattahip Royal Thai Marine Corps Base in Chonburi Province, Thailand. Cobra Gold 2017 is the 36th edition of the multinational drill and is co-organized by United States and Thailand.
• Life insurance firm, HDFC life launched a traditional life insurance plan, "Pragati" for low income group people. The plan has been designed especially to empower low income families by making the plan available at affordable rate to every person who has the desire to secure his family.
