• The 9th BRICS Summit's first Sherpas Meeting will be held in Nanjing Capital city of Jiangsu province of People's Republic of China.


• Indian Navy's aircraft carrier INS Viraat will be decommissioned from service on March 6.
Viraat is the oldest surviving aircraft carrier in the world, and holds a Guinness world record for the same.


• The government has launched free anti-virus softwares for smartphones and personal computers named 'Mkavach' and 'Samvid' respectively.  Another software named 'USBPratirodh' has been launched to control the unauthorised usage of removable USB storage devices.


• The 1st heliport in India was inaugurated by Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju in North Delhi. It was built at an investment of ₹100 crore.


• The government today approved a 900 MW hydropower project worth ₹5,723.72 crore to be set up in Nepal's Sankhuwasabha district.


• Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev today appointed his wife Mehriban Aliyev as the First Vice President of the country.


• Virat Kohli and Alia Bhatt will participate in Centre's gender equality campaign, 'WeAreEqual' on International Women's Day (8th March).


• At a time when cyber attacks are increasing Union Minister of Electronics and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad launched Cyber Swachhta Kendra in New Delhi  for Botnet cleaning and Malware analysis as a part of digital India initiative.


• A zip line connecting Spain and Portugal, is known to be the first cross-border zip line in the world. The 720-metre-long zip line joins the two countries, allowing people to reach Portugal within a minute.


• Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre has been appointed the chairman of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT). He was nominated for the post by Chief Justice J.S. Khehar. The post fell vacant following the resignation of Justice Balbir Singh Chauhan.


• The country's largest telecom services provider, Bharti Airtel (Airtel) has officially announced that it will acquire Telenor India.


• Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu unveiled Antyodaya Express for common man Equipped with cushioned seats, aluminium composite panels, and LED lights, the Antyodaya Express, a new fully unreserved train for the common man with specially designed colourful coaches. The first Antyodaya Express will be launched between Mumbai and Tatanagar, and the second will be between Ernakulam and Howrah .


• German Sportswear giant Adidas announced its ties up with FIFA U-17 World Cup Local Organizing Committee for the Mission XI Million programme.


• The National Rifle Association of India(NRAI) announced that India will be hosting the Combined World Cup for shooting in 2019 during the meeting held in New Delhi. Combined World Cup will a qualifying event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. It will comprises all the three categories shotgun, rifle and pistol.


• Today (23rd February) is World Rotary Day.


• One of the significant biodiversity mega events of India, the National Biodiversity Congress (NBC) 2017 was recently held at Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala).

Theme of National Biodiversity Congress (NBC) 2017 : “Mainstreaming Biodiversity for Sustainable Development”.


• The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched SAATHIYA Resource Kit and SAATHIYA SALAH mobile app for adolescents as part of the Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) programme.


• Britain has appointed Cressida Dick as the next Commissioner of London's Metropolitan Police.
With this, she will become the first woman to head Scotland Yard in its 188-year history.


• Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh’s biography, ‘The People’s Maharaja‘, written by Khushwant Singh was released .


• Union Women and Child Development Minister Sanjay Maneka Gandhi has unveiled the setting up of a compensation fund under Nirbhaya scheme to make available financial help to children who are victims of sexual crimes.


• Pinarayi Vijayan has decided to set up Ayurvedic research institute and Kerala Blood Bank society of International standards in Kerala during the 13th five year plan. Ayurvedic research institute will be set up at the cost of Rs 300 crore at Kannur.


• For the first time in the world, Microsoft to deploy Azure Stack in Andhra Pradesh.

♦ It is a cloud software that is binding the entire stack together in one environment.
♦ Microsoft is doing proof of concept (POC) with Government of Andhra Pradesh to prove its capability for the first time.
