4% profit
4% loss
5% loss
5% profit
No loss no profit

Solutions
------------------

1). Answer: C
20% loss = 80% of cost price
If, 80% of cost price = 6800
Then, X% of cost price = 8160
∴ X% = 80 × 8160 / 6800 = 96%
Hence, the loss = 100 – 96 = 4%

2). Answer: B
Let the selling price of the product be x,
115% of cost price = x
120% of cost price = x+25
∴ (x+25) × 115 = x × 120
5x = 115 × 25
∴ x = 575
Hence, the cost price of the product (C.P) = 100%
115% of cost price = 575
∴ C.P = 100 × 575/ 115 = 500

3). Answer: D
The 20% profit of cost price = 120
∴ the selling price of goods = 120
Cost price (900 gram) = 900 /1000 × 100 = 90
Hence, the overall profit = (120 – 90)/90 × 100 = 30 /90 × 100 = 33 1/3%

4). Answer: B
The cost price = (2160 + 1440) / 2 = 3600/2 = 1800
40% profit of cost price = 140 × 1800 /100 = 2520

5). Answer: A
Selling price (S.P1) = 90% of cost price
Selling price (S.P2) = 115% of cost price
Let the selling price of the product be x,
90% of cost price = x
115% of cost price = x+1250
90 × (x+1250) = x × 115
1250 × 90 = 115x – 90x
25x =1250 × 90
∴ x = 4500
Hence, the cost price = 4500 × 100 /90 = 5000

6). Answer: D
12 oranges bought for Rs. 51
∴ cost price of 1 orange = 51/12 = 4.25
8 oranges sold for Rs. 38
∴ selling price of 1 orange = 38/8 = 4.75
Hence, the profit = 4.75 – 4.25 = 0.5
Profit of 1 orange = 0.5
Profit of x oranges = 50
∴ x = 50 /0.5 = 100
Hence, 100 oranges are sold to get a profit of Rs.50

7). Answer: C
The profit% = (20-15)/15 × 100
= 5/15 × 100 = 33 1/3%

8). Answer: A
20% discount = 80% of marked price = 1200
25% profit on marked price, 125%= x
∴ x = 1200 × 125 / 80 = 1875

9). Answer: B
Rs.12180 = 140% profit of B
∴ cost price of B = 12180 × 100 / 140 = 8700
Rs.8700 = 120% of A
∴ cost price of A = 8700 × 100 / 120 = 7250
Hence, A paid for a wardrobe is Rs.7250

 10). Answer: B
The selling price of article1 = 120% of cost price = 1500
∴ cost price of article1 = 1500 × 100 / 120 = 1250
The selling price of article2 = 80% of cost price = 1500
∴ cost price of article2 = 1500 × 100 / 80 = 1875
The overall cost price = 1250 + 1875 = 3125
The overall selling price = 1500 + 1500 = 3000
∴ the overall loss = (Cost price – Selling price)/Cost price × 100
= (3125 – 3000)/3125 × 100 = 125/3125 × 100 = 4%
Hence, overall loss = 4%

a) Rs.6200
b) Rs.5800
c) Rs.5600
d) Rs.5400
e) None of these

Solutions:

1. D) Part of the tank filled in 3 minutes = [1/10 + 1/15 + 1/12] = (6+4+5) / 60 = 15/60 = ¼
therefore, total time = 4 x 3 = 12 minutes

2. C) Let x litres water be added in the mixture,
Then (35 + x)40 = 44 x 35
Or, 1400 + 40x = 1540
Therefore, x = 140/40 = 3.5
Therefore 3.5 litres water must be added in the mixture.

3. B) Let the length of the bridge be x m and that of first train be y m.
(x+ y)/35 = 20
x + y = 700
Again, [x + (y – 140)] / 40 = t
(x – y – 140) / 40 = t => (700 – 140) / 40 = t
T = 560/40 = 14 seconds

4. B) Let the distance between the two places be D km.
Speed of the man downstream = 7.5 + 2.5 = 10 kmph
And the speed of the man upstream = 7.5 — 2.5 = 5 kmph
Let the time taken to go downstream be t1 and upstream be t2.
Distance D is 10t1 = 5t2.
t 2 = 2t1 ….(i)
And t1 + t2 = 30 …(ii)
Solving (i) and (ii), we get
t1 = 10 hours
t2 = 20 hours
distance = 10t1= 10 x 10 = 100 km

5. D) Interest earned by Rangesh = (11700x5x2) / 100 = 1170
Interest earned by Mangesh = (11700x5x3)/100 = 1755
Interest earned by Ganesh = (11700x5x4)/100 = 2340
Reqd answer = 2340 — 1755 = 585

6. C) Let the speed of the current be x kmph.
Then, downstream speed = 12 + x
Upstream speed = 12 ‐ x
Now, [ 60 / (12+x) ] + [ 60 / (12 — x) ] = 11 + (15/60) =11 1/4 = 45/4
or, (60 x 12 ‐ 60x + 60 x 12 + 60x) / (144 — x2) = 45/4
or, 1440 / (144 – x2) = 45/4
or, 32 / (144—x2) = 1/ 4
or, 128 = 144 — x2
or,x2 = 144 — 128 = 16
Therefore x = 4 kmph

7. A) Circumference of the circle A = 2Пr
And diameter = 2r
Thus, 2r + 2Пr = 174
or, 2r(1 + П) = 174
or, r(1 + П) = 87
r = 87 / [ 1 + (22/7)] = (87×7) / 29 = 21cm
Radius of the circle B = 21 — 7 = 14 cm
Therefore, Circumference of the circle B = 2 x (22/7) x 14 =88 cm

8. C)
Now, B — C = 1122
Or, 168 — 100 = 1122
Or, 68 = 1122
120 = (1122/88) × 120 = 1980

9. E)
Now, (3x —25) / (x ‐ 25) = 19/3
or, 19x ‐ 25 x 19 = 9x ‐ 25 x 3
or, 10x = 475 — 75 = 400
x = 40 litres
Hence the quantity of milk in Jar A was 3x = 3 x 40 = 120 litres

10. D) Cost price of luxury pen = 4536 x (100/120) = 4536 x (5/6) = 756 x 5 = 3780
Marked price = 3780 x (100/70) = 54 x100 = Rs.5400

them live on a different floor in the same building, which is numbered
from 1 to 7.
Q sits fourth to the left of the person living on the 6th floor. Either Q or
the person living on the 6th floor sits at the extreme at ends of the line.
Only one person sits between Q and W. W lives on the 3rd floor. The
person living on 1st floor sits third to right of S. S is not an immediate
neighbour of W. Only one person lives between T and the person who
lives on the second floor.
P and R are immediate neighbours of each other. P does not live on the
6thfloor.One who lives on 5th floor sits third to right of the one who lives on the 7th Floor .

2) Study the following information carefully and answer the given questions.

equations you have to decide the relation between ‘x’ and ‘y’ and give answer.

(1) if x > y
 (2) if x < y
(3) if x ≥ y
(4) if x ≤ y
(5) if x = y or no relation can be established between ‘x’ and ‘y’.

1. I. 6x² - 19x + 15 = 0  II. 10y² - 29y + 21 = 0

2. I. 12x² + 11x - 56 = 0  II. 4y² - 15y + 14 = 0
